The limits of development

The development of humanity as a whole resembles the development of an individual. An individual goes through the stages of childhood, young adulthood, and maturity. He makes use of his full potential only in the final phase, although he had always contained this potential from the beginning. Let us identify the differentiating traits of each phase. We must keep in mind that human development is based on developing and actualizing one's inner necessities, or on the growth of one's ego. When the ego increases, so do the necessities. Increased necessities stimulate intellectual development and one's abilities to grasp the surrounding reality, resulting in qualitatively greater perception. This can be understood by examining the stages of historical development. A general outline of the fundamental phases is as follows: 1. The basic desires (4500—1200 BCE) 4500—2400 BCE the Sumerian and Akkadian Civilizations 2000—1200 BCE the Babylonian Empire, Epoch of the Patriarchs During this stage, humanity as a whole was concerned with the vital or bodily desires. Only a few individuals felt the more developed "human" desires, such as acquiring power, respect and knowledge. Therefore, this stage of human development can be described as a store of impressions about the difficulties of simple existence. During this developmental phase which lasted for centuries, humanity evolved unconsciously. This period ended when a man named Abraham was born. He was the first person to attain the integral picture of nature. His achievement represents a transition to the following developmental stage. 2. The aspiration for wealth (1200 BCE—200 CE) 1200—600 the Assyrian Empire, Israel is founded 500—300 the Persian Empire 400—400 the Macedonian Empire 100 BCE—200 CE the Roman Empire, emergence of Christianity During the second period human egoism increased and brought about greater structure, as expressed by nations and governments. This kind of development reached its peaks with the flowering and crumbling of the great Greek and Roman empires, and the wars that engulfed the world. http://www.kabbalah.info/engkab/mystzohar.htm http://www.kabbalah.info/engkab/mystzohar.htm
