A new way to interpret the historical process

Human development happens gradually and is powered by people's growing egoism. Egoism’s growth and development cause the young generation to differ from the older one, as opposed to animals, which don't undergo egoistic development and therefore do not differ from their offspring. The egoistic desire is the essential fabric of all components of nature, on all its levels. It is the sole entity that appeared, or was created, at the beginning of time. This is what we refer to as "egoism" or "the will to receive pleasure." Man is the only element of nature whose egoistic desires undergo evolution. All other components of nature (the still, vegetative and animate levels) have constant and unchangeable desires. A civilization’s development is caused precisely by man's growing desires, by his evolving yearning to derive pleasure from new sources and the quest for a means to satisfy this yearning. Humanity makes progress because people's desires are at constant growth. As time elapses, egoism continues its constant and gradual development. As it increases and grows quantitatively, it becomes expressed as qualitatively different desires. Macro-anthropology divides the total complex of human desires into five levels, where desires of different levels seek to derive pleasure from different sources. The levels of desire follow a hierarchy: 1. The basic or bodily desires. Sources of pleasure on this level include food, shelter, and procreation. 2. Desires for wealth and possessions. 3. Desires for respect, power and fame. 4. Desires for knowledge. 5. Spiritual desires. On this level one aspires to comprehend the meaning of life and to attain the plan of creation. One after another, over the course of millennia, these desires come to the surface and give rise to different stages of human development. The basic desires, listed in the first category, are considered "animalistic" because animals have these desires as well. A person feels hunger and sexual urges under any circumstances, even when living in total isolation. Desires of the following categories, for wealth, power and knowledge, are of a higher order and are considered "human desires." They emerge as a result of social influence on a person, and one can satisfy them only in society. These desires bring about the formation of different social classes and hierarchies. In the light of this paradigm, a review of human activity in the realms of culture, education, science and technology shows that all human ideas, inventions and novelties were produced by nothing other than man's ever-developing egoism. When viewed this way, all these highly esteemed developments suddenly appear as mere "technical instruments" or "means of service," created by man exclusively for the sake of satisfying specific needs that emerge due to pressure from the will to receive. http://www.kabbalah.info/engkab/mystzohar.htm http://www.kabbalah.info/engkab/mystzohar.htm
