Ongoing crisis in education, increasing violence and low achievement reflects a sad state of the education system.
Magic solutions in the form of pills like Ritalin can calm perhaps only briefly, but in fact repress a genuine internal cry of the new generation who is seeking an answer to a deeper problem - the question of what am I doing here?
The reason is that the young generation is unique and different from the preceding generations. It contains all the disappointments, the aspirations and desires of the previous generations, and is an advanced upgrade of their kind.
Our children have urges and desires much more developed than ours. The need to find out why we live, a notion that only burst to the consciousness of the parents generation, embedded in children already at birth. The twenty-first century children want to first understand why they live, and only then move on to life. Not for nothing this generation is not impressed by what this world has to offer, especially at a time when every day comes another technological innovation which turns obsolete right after it gets out into the urban mall's space.
When we ignore our children's natural need, and instead try to calm them and other such measures, the results look the way they look today. Tantrums, or alternatively, drug consumption, depression and alienation among youth spread like a prairie fire, are a direct result of frustration resulting from their inability to fill the internal space opened in their midst.
If we start really solving the problem of education, rather than trying to treat symptoms, we go straight to the root of the problem. It is our duty as parents, to seek the answer to the question that concerns them together with them. This is the only satisfaction that could fill their new need which is no longer a choice, but became a real necessity.
